Anne Cappiello has been teaching Spanish for 25 years, 19 of those at Harbor High School in Santa Cruz, California. She has taught every level of Spanish, from level 1-AP, but her passion is teaching and supporting heritage speakers of Spanish. From 2012-2017, she was a teacher leader for the Monterey Bay World Language Project and in 2015 she was awarded Outstanding Teacher of the Year from the California Language Teachers Association. For the past five years, she has collaborated with other teachers in the state to develop instructional units for heritage language programs, receiving support from the California World Language Project and Stanford University Graduate School of Education as well as The Intrepid Philanthropy Foundation’s LIGHT award (Leveraging Innovation by Growing and Honoring Teachers).
