Catherine Ritz, EdD, is a clinical assistant professor and the program director for the World Language Education and Curriculum & Teaching programs at Boston University’s Wheelock College of Education and Human Development. She is the author of two books on world language education: “Leading Your World Language Program: Strategies for Design & Supervision, Even If You Don’t Speak the Language!” (Routledge, 2021) and “Proficiency-Based Instruction: Input & Interaction in World Language Education” (ACTFL, 2022, with co-author Christina Toro).

MAFLA Proficiency Academy - Collaborative PD on the Path to Proficiency
TELL: ProfessionalismHow can we help teachers shift towards teaching for proficiency? This presentation shares the experience of the MaFLA Proficiency Academy, which was launched in 2015 and has supported over 500 teachers in making the shift. Its collaborative, teacher-centered design has helped Massachusetts school districts be successful in teaching for proficiency.
